BACOLOD City – Antidrug operations in this capital city were intensified in view of the upcoming MassKara Festival.
Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, spokesman of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said they want to cut the supply of drugs entering the city before the annual celebration begins Oct. 8.
The 21-day festival is expected to attract thousands of tourists in Bacolod.
BCPO head Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo said there will be a huge demand for drugs during MassKara.
To address the drug demand problem, Gabana said the Police Community Relations Unit of the BCPO will strengthen its “demand reduction drive.”
The BCPO has confiscated almost P3 million worth of shabu so far this September.
The biggest haul was recorded in Barangay 2 on Sept. 26. Shabu valued at around P1.2 million was recovered there.
Ebreo earlier said security preparations for MassKara were “in full blast.”
Although there is no threat, the festival security scheme was designed to prevent terror attacks, he added.
“We cannot be complacent,” Ebreo stressed./PN
