KALIBO, Aklan – Deactivated antidrug police units across Western Visayas will be tasked to run after wanted persons.
All Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Groups in cities, provinces and municipalities will be converted into “tracker teams,” according to Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office 6.
“Tracker teams are dedicated to track down wanted persons, regardless of the crime [they committed],” Gorero said.
Director General Ronald Dela Rosa dissolved all the antidrug units of the Philippine National Police on Sunday after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the suspension of the war on drugs.
All police directors were directed to desist from conducting antidrug operations, Gorero stressed.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency is now leading the antidrug campaign, including the application for and serving of search warrants and the conduct of buy-bust operations, while the police will focus on “seven focused crimes and the Lambat Sibat campaign,” said Gorero.
He clarified that the police will be the antidrug agents’ support group, and even without Oplan Double Barrel, “police stations will continue to process drug personalities who will surrender.”
“Nandoon pa rin ang pulis na mag-augment,” he said but warned that “police officers who continue conducting antidrug operations will face administrative charges.” (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
