SAN JOSE, Antique – This province adopted the “Shelter in Place,” a preparedness measure for the arrival of Tropical Storm Ambo.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Broderick Train on May 14 urged the people to make sure their houses are secure even though this province would not be directly affected by “Ambo”.
“The ‘Shelter in Place’ is a way of urging the residents to stay at home and to ensure that their houses are secure or would not be blown away in case the storm passes by,” said Train.
He also instructed the people to repair parts of their houses and to clear their surroundings.
According to Train, “Shelter in Place” was decided during their Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment meeting with other national and local government agencies on May 12.
People have to remain in their houses because most public schools of the 18 towns in Antique cannot be used as evacuation centers since they have already been converted into isolation facilities for those undergoing quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard-Antique has been advising fishermen not to venture in the seas because of the typhoon.
