SAN JOSE, Antique – The Province of Antique is ready to host the West Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet to set to kick off today until Feb. 11.

Schools Division Superintendent Reynaldo Gico declared in a press briefing on Friday that the Division of Antique in partnership with the Provincial Government is ready to welcome the delegates from different provinces in Region 6.

Opening rites will be held today at the EBJ Freedom Grandstand in Binirayan Hills, San Jose, Antique.

Department of Education assistant reegional director Victor de Gracia also a native of Antique thanked the support of the Provincial Government and other stakeholders making the province set for the WVRAA Meet.

The WVRAA will serve as a prelude to the biggest annual sports event in the country, the  2017 Palarong Pambansa come April 23 to 29, said de Gracia.

Gico further said that coordination has been done with other agencies of government such as the local disaster risk reduction and management council, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Health, other concerned agencies and local government units to ensure safety and protection of athletes, officials and other delegates.

Billeting quarters of the delegation are already in place. Issues on the availability of water, comfort rooms among other concerns have already been given attention.   

He also thanked the Provincial Government for their all-out support to the athletes who already received their uniform and allowance days before the opening of the meet.

Aside from the sports events regularly played during WVRAA, there will also be demonstrations of new sports events such as Pencak Silat, Dance Sports and Aero Gymnastics.  Special Children will also have a Paralympics.

Some of the sports events are to be played in schools outside of San Jose since the Binirayan field is undergoing rehabilitation for the upcoming Palarong Pambansa. (PIA/PN)
