SAN JOSE, Antique – For transporting liquor, an ambulance driver was arrested at the border checkpoint in Barangay Fabrica, Hamtic, Antique.
There is an ongoing liquor ban in this province despite shifting from enhanced community quarantine to general community quarantine.
The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Emmanuel Marron of Barangay Olaga, Sibalom. He is a regular Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office employee of the local government unit (LGU) there.
Marron was only supposed to pick up residents of Sibalom stranded in Iloilo who wanted to go home.
Nine boxes of 375ml liquor were found by police inside Marron’s driven ambulance while checking his and his passenger’s documents Thursday morning.
Marron was brought to the Sibalom municipal police station, facing charges for violation of Executive Orders 35 to 45-A issued by Gov. Rhodora Cadiao, in relation to Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority).
For his part, Sibalom mayor Gian Carlo Occeña issued an official statement condemning the fraudulent act done by Marron.
He said the incident is an outright violation of the existing executive orders of this province, and it destroyed the good intentions of Sibalom LGU.
Occeña added that Marron should face the consequences of his act./PN
