ANTIQUE – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminded local candidates to remove their illegal and oversized election materials before the local campaign begins on March 28.
Comelec Acting Assistant Regional Director and concurrent Antique Provincial Election Supervisor Wil Arceño said materials outside the designated common poster areas in municipalities have to be taken down three days before the start of the campaign period for local candidates.
“I am sending letters to the local candidates in Antique for them to already remove starting tomorrow (Tuesday) their illegal and oversized campaign materials,” Arceño said in an interview yesterday.
Illegally posted campaign materials are those not found in plazas, markets, and barangay centers designated as common poster areas, while oversized posters are those exceeding 2×3 feet.
He said those local candidates who do not comply with the Comelec order could be violating Republic Act 9006, or the Fair Elections Act.
He added that they will launch Operation Baklas, or the simultaneous removal of illegally posted materials, throughout the province on Friday, similar to what they did at the start of the campaign for national posts on February 11. (PNA)
