Antique bishop seeks prayers for 19 seminarians with COVID-19

SAN JOSE, Antique – Antiqueños have been urged to pray for the fast recovery of 19 seminarians who contracted coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to Bishop Marvyn Maceda of Antique, the seminarians are currently being isolated at the St. John Mary Vianney Center located within the compound of St. Peter’s Seminary in Barangay San Pedro here.

On April 11, St. Peter’s Seminary’s 34 seminarians were swabbed by the San Jose Rural Health Unit.

The results were released on April 13 – 10 were negative for COVID-19 while 10 were positive for the illness.

The results of five other seminarians were yet to be released as of this writing.

Of thMe 19 COVID-positive seminarians, four exhibited mild symptoms. The rest were asymptomatic, according to Maceda.

Those interested to help may contact their parishes, said the bishop.

“We pray for the recovery of all COVID-19 patients and for the protection of our healthcare frontliners,” said Maceda.

As of April 12, San Jose had 166 active COVID-19 cases; 21 cases have recovered while five died./PN
