Antique brings COVID vax drive to barangays

ANTIQUE – The provincial government has started taking its vaccination campaign against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to the barangays.

The Antique Provincial Health Office (APHO) vaccination team’s first stops last week were villages in the towns of Bugasong, Libertad and Sibalom. These municipalities have low COVID-19 vaccination accomplishments.

The primary targets of vaccination are the senior citizens but the campaign also includes healthcare workers, persons with comorbidities and economic frontliners.

As of Sept. 12, here’s the number of people vaccinated in the three towns:

* Libertad – 2,294 out of the 12,207 target population

* Bugasong – 2,271 out of 24,997 target population

* Sibalom – 3,706 out of 44,809 target population

“Gindala na naton sa kabarangayan ang pagpangbakuna para ang aton senior citizens mabakunahan na,” said Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.

Bringing the vaccination drive to the barangays is favorable to people as they won’t have to travel long distances to get to their municipal vaccination centers and spend for their fare, she added.

Their exposure to COVID-9 would also be lessened, Cadiao added.

The provincial government is incentivizing senior citizens who get vaccinated. Each is given a can of biscuits “para may dal-on man sila pauli,” said Cadiao.

As of Sept. 4, the number of fully vaccinated senior citizens in Antique reached 16,190.

The provincial government targets to vaccinate 49,063 senior citizens.

Province-wide, 70,592 Antiqueños or 16 percent of the 432,452 target population have been fully vaccinated (as of Sept. 12)./PN
