Antique bus accident victims get cash aid

ILOILO City – The Vallacar Transit, Inc. (VTI) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 have released financial assistance to the families of the victims of the recent vehicular crash in Barangay Igbucagay, Hamtic, Antique.

As of Thursday, Dec. 7, the VTI, operator of Ceres buses, partially released a financial assistance of P50,000 to each of the family of the 14 out of 18 casualties.

These 14 are identified as:

* Jevy A. Burdago (inspector)

* Ricky Serios (driver)

* Jose Glenn Fandagi (inspector)

* Joemarie A. Alcala (passenger)

* Fretzie Javellana (passenger)

* Jessie Javellana (passenger)

* Federica Singh (passenger)

* Zairon Alcala (passenger)

* Jim Andrei Secondes (passenger)

* Nelson R. Espina (passenger)

* Arriane Raven Mejia (passenger)

* Tom Elizaga (passenger)

* Patrick Musoni (passenger)

* Ramon Enrique Salvani V (passenger)   

Four more victims admitted at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital (ASMGH) in San Jose de Buenavista town also received P10,000 each from the VTI.

The company also pledged to reimburse all previous and future expenses until all patients make a full recovery. This includes hospitalization, medicine, food, as well as physical and psychological therapy if needed.

Also, VTI representatives said they are in contact with the families to discuss funeral costs and other expenses.

Moreover, they are working on logistics to transport the bodies of the vacationing family from Koronadal City, South Cotabato and the foreign missionaries.

The VTI has also set up two help desks at the ASMGH and Hamtic Municipal Police Station to cater to the needs of the victims’ families.

The DSWD-6, for its part, released a total of P60,000 in financial assistance to the bus crash victims.

Through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS), the families of six victims confined in Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao, Iloilo City already claimed their financial assistance amounting to P10,000 each.

The agency has coordinated with concerned Local Social Welfare and Development Offices for the release of financial assistance to other victims of the road accident.

DSWD-6 also conducts further assessment to determine other assistance needed by the victims and their families.

The tragic accident on Tuesday, Dec. 5, left 18 people dead and 10 others injured. Of the 10 survivors, six remain in critical condition in a hospital in Iloilo City while the four others were already in stable condition./PN
