SAN JOSE, Antique – Capitol must pay for the sacks of rice left rotten at the comfort rooms of a gym here, the National Food Authority (NFA) stressed.
NFA regional director Rex Estoperez said the 900 sacks of NFA rice the capitol ordered in 2014 were worth P1,215,000.
Unless it pays, the provincial government may not avail itself of rice loans from the food agency even amid a calamity.
“It (provincial government) has to buy rice in cash,” stressed NFA provincial manager Frisco Canoy.
Estoperez told the press he discussed the matter with Gov. Rhodora Cadiao when they met on Thursday.
Former governor Exequiel Javier asked for the release of the sacks of NFA rice intended for typhoon victims in 2014.
Javier reportedly ordered the transfer of 400 sacks of NFA rice from his house to the EBJ Gym at Binirayan Hills here.
Estoperez said their laboratory examination showed the rice were no longer fit for human consumption and must be disposed of. (PNA)
