SAN JOSE, Antique – As of Nov. 21, Antique had only two active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) left.
They were a 55-year-old male from Bugasong town and a 24-year-old male from Sibalom. Both were classified as cases outside the province of Antique (COPA).
Since March when the pandemic started, Antique recorded a total of 80 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Of these, 77 already recovered, said Joenes Jereza, health promotion education assistant of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The province only had one death due the disease – a 61-year-old woman with a pre-existing medical condition from the municipality of Hamtic.
She died on Sept. 18 in a hospital in Iloilo City before her positive COVID-19 test result came out.
The 80 cumulative cases were composed of 45 locally-transmitted cases, four returning overseas Filipinos, 13 locally stranded individuals, and 18 cases who contracted the disease outside Antique.
Jereza also disclosed that Antique had no more probable cases but had 1,496 persons under monitoring (PUMs) as of Nov. 21.
Jereza urged Antiqueños to continue observing the minimum public health safety protocols – wearing of facemask and face shield, physical distancing, and washing of hands with soap and water or disinfectant.
People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.
These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell./PN
