Antique eyes moratorium on commercial flights

SAN JOSE, Antique – The Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (PIATF) will be proposing to the Regional IATF to temporarily suspend the operation of commercial flights in Antique.

This is in response to the rapid rise of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the province.

As of April 3, the Antique Provincial Health Office has recorded 104 active cases.

“Commercial lang ang masarangan natun e temporarily stop anay,” said Margie Gadian, PIATF spokesperson.

On the other hand, individuals using private flights should present a negative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test results.

Once approved by the RIATF, the provincial counterpart will be implementing the flight moratorium for the duration of one week.

Antique’s Evelio Javier Airport is located in San Jose, 12 villages of which are under six days (April 1-6) of “granular lockdown” due to rising cases of COVID-19 for the past two weeks.

Mayor Elmer Untaran said the lockdown will end on midnight of April 6 but this may be extended if “a longer period is required”.

The 12 barangays are Atabay, Badiang, 1, 4, 8, Igbonglo, Madrangca, Magcalon, Malaiba, Maybato North, San Angel, and San Fernando.

The Municipal Inter-Agency Task Force recommended the lockdown.

All residents of the 12 barangays should strictly stay home./PN
