SAN JOSE, Antique – Antique’s early rice harvest yield in the first cropping season totaled 3,375.31 metric tons (MT), the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) reported.

OPA Rice Report Officer Ma. Lourdes Fortaleza said the yield was from 58.56 hectares of farmlands in the towns of Barbaza, Hamtic and Sibalom.

This contributed a huge share to the 14,444.36 MT of Western Visayas’ overall production from 120.15 hectares of farmlands in July.

National Food Authority (NFA) Antique manager Marianito Bejemino said aside from the rice stocks in the early harvest, the province also has more than 7,000 bags of rice at NFA warehouses.

“The NFA, in its two warehouses in San Jose de Buenavista and Culasi, has 7,525 bags of rice as buffer stock,” Bejemino stressed. (With PNA/PN)
