SAN JOSE, Antique – A special job fair for persons with disabilities (PWDs) was conducted in this province last week.
Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) head Paolo Castillo said they held the job fair for the first time to provide PWDs with a venue where they could apply for jobs.
“The job fair was our first time to hold such activity as part of our observance of the 41st National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week,” he added.
Meanwhile, provincial employment and service officer Myra Pe said 48 PWDs and 10 abled persons came to apply during the job fair.
“Of the 48 applicants, one PWD was hired on the spot,” she added.
Pe noted the activity was in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)
“Twenty-one other applicants were waiting for the schedule of their interview with the participating companies,” she noted.
PWD Rene Boy Tabique of Barangay Jalandoni, Culasi, Antique was hired on-the-spot as a development officer of Ahon sa Kahirapan.
Other participating companies were Gaisano, DDL and Sons Management, Inc., Savant Technologies, and Esprutingkle.
The province has 8,592 PWDs registered with the Department of Health and PDAO roster. Most of them had orthopedic problems, cleft, and sight-impaired.
Castillo said about 12 percent or 1,031 out of 8,592 PWDs in the province are working in government agencies and private companies. (With a report from PNA/PN)
