Antique IPs to undergo masonry, massage training

SAN JOSE, Antique – Around 125 indigenous peoples (IPs) in Antique will undergo skills training on masonry and massage next month.

The IPs are from the towns of Hamtic, Tobias Fornier, Valderrama, and San Jose, according to Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) provincial director Jose Gerry Hallares.

“This is a special program intended for the IPs, including the sacadas (sugar migrant workers) of Antique,” Hallares said. “The training will run for an average of 17 to 18 days.”

TESDA secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong introduced the program at President Rodrigo Dutert’s order, added Hallares.

TESDA-Antique targets to gather 50 IPs in Hamtic and 25 each in Tobias Fornier, Valderrama and San Jose for the training.

Hallares said the training will be held in coordination with the National Council for Indigenous People.

“We are waiving the educational attainment requirement for the IPs just so they could avail [themselves] of the trainings,” he added. (With PNA/PN)
