SAN JOSE, Antique – Public utility jeepneys (PUJs) in this province continued to ply the streets amid the nationwide transport strike on Monday.
Oscar Legaspi, president of the United Belison Jeepney Operators and Drivers’ Association, said they waited for instructions but did not receive any from the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide-regional chapter of which their local organization is a member.
“We had been waiting if we will join in the nationwide strike but there is no instruction for us to do so until noontime Monday,” Legaspi said.
He added that since there was no instruction for the 20 members of their group in this capital town, they continued to ply their routes and transport commuters.
Jose Armamento of the San Jose-Sibalom Public Utility Vehicle Operators and Drivers Association said various local associations of jeepney operators and drivers decided not to join the strike in view of leadership issues in their provincial organizations.
“We also learned that there are some members of the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers’ Association in Iloilo City that did not participate so we decided not to join in the strike,” Armamento said.
Meanwhile, Antique Provincial Police Office deputy director Norby Escobar said most of the PUJs in Antique did not join the transport strike.
“Antique is still peaceful with the PUJs plying the streets,” added Escobar.(With a report from PNA/PN)
