ANTIQUE – This province’s capital town port expansion and rehabilitation will be a priority project next year.
Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) assistant general manager for engineering Carlito Castillo informed the Antique provincial board about this through a letter tackled during Monday’s session.
San Jose port will be expanded to accommodate cruise and cargo terminal operations.
“The proposed project involves the extension of the wharf and widening of apron,” part of Castillo’s letter read.
The detailed engineering is being done by the PPA.
Board member Rony Molina, sponsor of the resolution dated Sept. 1, said shipping companies that used to operate inter-island cruise ships and cargoes stopped their operations because of siltation which made it difficult for them to dock, thus the need to rehabilitate the port’s seawalls or breakers and address the frequent siltation.
