Antique posts all-time high new COVID cases in one day

SAN JOSE, Antique – One hundred new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were recorded in Antique this June 16. This is so far the province’s highest number of infections recorded in one day.

Prior to June 16, the highest single day new infections in Antique were recorded on April 14 – 99 cases.

Data from the Antique Provincial Health Office (APHO) showed the town of Caluya having the most number of new infections at 47.

Other towns with new infections recorded on June 16 were the following:

* San Jose – 12

* Pandan – nine

* Bugasong – seven

* Libertad – six

* Belison – five

* Sibalom – four

* San Remegio – three

* Tobias Fornier – one

* Valderrama – one

* Barbarza – one

* Hamtic – one

* Patnongon – one

* Sebaste – one

To date, Antique has 403 active COVID-19 cases, 1,453 have recovered while 87 died (for a total of 1,943 cases recorded since the pandemic started last year).

Here’s the breakdown of the active cases:

* Culasi – 88

* San Jose – 87

* Caluya – 48

* Belison – 31

* Sibalom – 27

* Bugasong – 26

* Pandan – 21

* Hamtic- 14

* Libertad – 12

* Anini-y – 11

* Barbaza – 10

* Patnongon – seven

* San Remegio – six

* Tobias Fornier – five

* Valderrama – five

* Laua-an – two

* Tibiao – two

* Sebaste – one

“Naga-surge naman kami di. Ginapunggan-punggan gani namon galing kay it’s happening all over Region 6 and we got a surge in the island of Caluya,” said Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.

She also pointed out case surges in Pandan and Belison in the northern part of the province.

“Medyo nagkampante sila. Abi nanda indi sila maapektohan kay giya lang ang surge sa southern part,” added Cadiao, referring to a surge in cases a few weeks back in San Jose and Bugasong.

She reminded Antiqueños continue observing the health protocols – wearing of facemask and face shield in public, physical distancing and proper washing of hands./PN
