ANTIQUE – The Antique provincial government and nine municipalities in the province are awardees of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) that recognizes the continuing commitment of local government units (LGUs) towards good governance.
The nine municipalities that passed the SGLG national validation, as announced by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Thursday, Nov. 14, are Barbaza, Belison, Culasi, Libertad, Pandan, Patnongon, San Jose de Buenavista, San Remigio, and Valderrama.
“The council composed of various national government agencies during their validation found Antique and the nine municipalities to have passed in all of the 10 areas or criteria, such as on transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, disaster preparedness, social protection, and sensitivity to the needs of the vulnerable members of society,” DILG-Antique Provincial Office Program Manager Darrelle Thea Abad said on Friday.
The province is now a three-time SGLG passer after bagging the seal in 2021 and 2022. It joined 40 other provinces in the country that also passed the criteria.
“As for the municipalities, their number is increasing with only four in 2022, six in 2023, and this year with nine,” Abad said.
She added that they could not yet determine the fiscal incentive as they wait for the awarding ceremony, tentatively scheduled for next month. (PNA)
