Antique restricts residents due to Delta variant

SAN JOSE, Antique – A stricter border control is being observed in Antique until Aug. 30 to limit the movement of people as the province recorded the highest number of Delta variant cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Western Visayas.

Gov. Rhodora Cadiao said Antique had 22 local cases (as of Aug. 10) of the highly transmissible variant.

Antiqueños with no essential transactions have to stay at home in the next two weeks, based on the recommendation of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6.

“Those who have to go outside of their homes have to seek travel passes,” Cadiao said.

The pass will be issued by the village chairperson for inter-barangay transactions, the municipal mayor for those going out of their towns, and the office of the governor for those who will travel outside of Antique.

The pass will be presented at the borders control points.

The implementation of the border control was already included in Executive Order (EO) 117 issued by the governor on July 31 but Cadiao will be issuing a new EO reiterating strict observance that will include the travel pass requirement.

Meantime, inbound travelers to Antique have to present their letter of coordination with their local government unit of destination.

Cadiao said Antiqueños should temporarily avoid holding family gatherings while wakes will only be allowed for five days to avoid being a super spreader.

“Although we are on general community quarantine , I ask the people to act as if we are under enhanced community quarantine. They should strictly practice minimum health protocols such as wearing of face masks,” said Cadiao. (PNA)
