ANTIQUE – The provincial government asked the National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF) on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to lower the province’s quarantine level.

Antique is currently under general community quarantine (GCQ).

The provincial government’s request for a modified GCQ was favorably endorsed by the Western Visayas Regional Task Force on COVID-19 and the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF) on COVID-19.

According to the Antique Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force, COVID-19 cases in the province have dropped.

Between Oct. 1 to 20, Antique recorded 199 COVID-19 cases.

Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 also endorsed the Antique provincial government’s request, saying the province is now a “low risk” area, according to Cindy Ferrer, spokesperson of the Western Visayas Regional Task Force on COVID-19.

But even if the request for a modified GCQ is approved, Antiqueños should continue to observe the minimum public health standards, said Ferrer, citing the advice of DOH Region 6 director Adriano Suba-an.

“It doesn’t mean nga mag-relax na,” Ferrer stressed, “para ma-avoid ang spike sang cases.”

As of Oct. 20, Antique had 171 active COVID-19 cases, 5,563 cases that recovered and 278 cases that died.
