SAN JOSE, Antique – The local government units (LGUs) here were urged to promote a healthy community by implementing Republic Act (RA) 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda enjoined the LGUs during a meeting with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
“Basic health and sanitation should be given priority to keep the community healthy,” Legarda said.
She also pushed for the implementation of “zero open defecation” to keep the environment clean which in turn could help get rid of diseases like the novel coronavirus and dengue.
“We can’t be healthy if there is open defecation,” she added.
LGUs were directed to provide counterpart for the installation of toilet bowls as she encouraged town mayors to find means for the villages which lack water supply.
Legarda said clean surroundings and healthy community could usher in more business and tourism opportunities for the province.(With a report from PIA/PN)
