Antique to acquire lot for new capitol building

SAN JOSE, Antique – The provincial government here was planning to purchase a lot in Barangay Atabay for the construction of a new capitol building this year, according to Vice Governor Edgar Denosta.

“The lot purchase could happen this June,” Denosta said, adding that of the several proposed sites, the property in the said village is bigger and suitable for the provincial building and for its future expansions.

“The construction of the capitol may take some time after the lot acquisition though,” he added.

Denosta said since the new site is still agricultural, its land conversion and titling could take some time.

Last year, Governor Rhodora Cadiao conducted an ocular inspection on the five-hectare lot.

The provincial government, Cadiao said, has savings of around P2 million that can be used for the lot acquisition.

Cadiao plans to accommodate offices of some national government agencies at the new site to make it a “one stop shop” for public transactions.

The present capitol building was constructed in 1957 during the time of former governor Josue Cadiao, the incumbent governor’s father.(With a report from PNA/PN)
