Antique to hire 2,000 short- term workers this summer

SAN JOSE, Antique – Around 2,000 beneficiaries from 76 villages will get short-term work under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) program in the province.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) conducted a TUPAD implementation orientation to the beneficiaries in Sibalom, Antique to educate the work and responsibilities they need to comply, said provincial government personnel Rexon Nodque.

Nodque said the TUPAD workers will be cleaning canals, tree-planting and other community works for 30 days starting on March 25.

TUPAD aims to provide short-term alternative livelihood for farm workers affected by the El Niño phenomenon, said DOLE provincial officer Virginia  Misajon.

The orientation started on March 19 will assess around 16,000 potential workers in 18 municipalities in the province.

Misajon noted the hired workers will be receiving a P365 minimum wage per day and can also get a double pay salary during holidays on April. (With a report from PNA/PN)
