ANTIQUE province will host the long-course swimming meet of the Philippine Swimming League on Sept. 29 at the Binirayan Sports Complex in San Jose town.
Up-and-coming swimmers in the Philippines are expected to participate in the one-day event that will serve as qualifier for an international competition in Dubai in December, said Provincial Tourism Officer Jose Ramlo Villaluna.
“We are glad that Antique has been chosen as host of the qualifying leg,” Villaluna said. “We welcome the hosting of this event since it is a way of promoting the province to swimmers around the country.”
The Binirayan swimming pool is the first Olympic-sized swimming pool in Western Visayas. It has been used during the 2017 Palarong Pambansa, Villaluna pointed out.
Gov. Rhodora Cadiao proposed to shoulder the travel expenses of the male and female swimmers who will accumulate the highest FINA points, the local government official disclosed.
Cadiao “announced that two swimmers with the highest points in the one-day event will be awarded free airfare for their participation in the Dubai tournament,” Villaluna said.
The Swimming League is recognized by the Philippine Sports Commission as the official swimming association in the country. It is accredited by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines./PN
