ANTIQUE will be sending around 730 athletes and technical officials in the 2019 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet slated on Feb. 17 to 23 in Roxas City.
Department of Education-Antique Division School Governance and Operations Division chief Evelyn Remo said they will be sending in student-athletes in various sports despite budget constraints.
“Antique will participate in the different sports events at the WVRAA,” Remo said in an interview with the Philippine News Agency.
Antique governor Rhodora Cadiao, for her part, said the provincial government is giving its all-out support to the student-athletes, who will leave for Roxas City on Feb. 10.
“I will try my very best to be in Roxas City to inspire the athletes during the opening program,” Cadiao said. “The provincial government is now expediting the purchase order requests for the needs of the athletes.”
Cadiao said the budget allotted for the WVRAA-bound athletes could not be increased to P13 million from P9 million last year as planned due to failure to approve the annual budget for 2019.
The WVRAA Meet is set to determine the athletes the will represent Region VI in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa, which will be held in Davao City later this year./PN
