Antique to welcome new investment center

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – A P50-million investment center will soon rise in this town’s Dalipe Tradetown.

In a press conference Tuesday, San Jose de Buenavista mayor Elmer Untaran said the proposed two-story project will break ground on Feb. 1.

“The investment center will have for the ground floor the public utility jeepney (PUJ) terminal and in the second floor, the display center of the different local products,” he said.

Untaran said the center is intended to further promote the various local products of the municipality and of the other municipalities in the province.

“Various products produced in Antique will be displayed at the investment center,” he said.

Currently, a small souvenir shop at the Dalipe Tradetown, that is maintained by the local government, displays and sells products such as native bags, mats, baskets, among others.

“The souvenir shop, however, will be made bigger with the construction of the investment center,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ground floor will serve as terminal of the PUJ that transport passengers from here to the 18 towns of the province and vice versa.

“The terminal will also be used by the buses that go to Iloilo and to Kalibo,” he said.

In a previous interview, Untaran said the terminal will provide a better place for the southbound public transport that was displaced following the construction of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) building.

The NBI was constructed on a 1,500-square-meter lot at the Dalipe Tradetown where the southbound public transport used to be situated.

The office of Antique Lone District rep. Loren Legarda will fund the project. (PNA)
