Antique towns on heightened alert vs ASF threat

ANTIQUE – Following reported hog deaths in neighboring towns, Mayor Ernesto Tajanlangit III ordered residents of Tobias Fornier, Antique to avoid bringing in pork and pork products.

“May mga reports sa aton mga kaingud nga banwa nga may mga baboy nga ga karamatay kag gina kumpirmar pa kun ano ang kabangdanan,” read part of the mayor’s advisory.

It added: “Ginapa-andaman anay naton ang hog raisers rudya sa Dao nga kun mahimu indi anay magbakal kang karne kang baboy nga indi imo ihaw. Kag likawan anay naton magdara kang karne kang baboy sa aton mga panimalay. Pangaman lang dya batok sa pag pamahùg kang African Swine Fever (ASF),”

Tajanlangit was also set to meet with the Municipal Task Force for ASF Prevention on Monday, June 5.

Meanwhile, Mayor Julius Ronald Pacificador of Hamtic town issued Executive Order No. 32, Series of 2023, implementing African Swine Fever protective measures by prohibiting the transfer or transport of swine and pork, the slaughtering of swine, and the sale of pork in the municipality for 14 days.

“It was found out that in two weeks there were swines that died, particularly breeders (sow and boar), fatteners, and piglets in some barangays,” read part of the order.

It added: “To prevent and control the spread of diseases in pigs and to protect the public and swine industry in the Municipality of Hamtic, there is a need to impose stringent and effective protective measures.”

Pacificador further ordered a ban on the transport of swine from barangay to barangay within the municipality and from the municipality to other municipalities./PN
