ILOILO City – The war against illegal drugs in Region 6 has claimed its 70th casualty since it started in July 2016.
Around 11:50 p.m. on Monday, 35-year-old Leo Tachuan of Barangay 8, San Jose, Antique was shot to death by policemen.
Tanchuan was subjected to a buy-bust. An undercover police officer was able to buy from him a sachet of shabu for P500.
He resisted arrest and tried to fire a gun, said Superintendent Mark Anthony Darroca, San Jose police chief.
He described Tanchuan as a new drug personality.
Operatives of the San Jose police station and Antique Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit recovered from the suspect 20 sachets of shabu valued at P20,000 and a .38 revolver.
“We have no intention to kill him but he tried to shoot our undercover policeman. We have no choice but shoot him,” said Darroca.
Tachuan also became the 10th drug suspect killed this month in Western Visayas. The nine others – killed in police operations or by unidentified riding-in-tandem assassins – were the following:
