Antiqueño faces arrest for ‘cyberlibel’

ILOILO City – The regional trial court of Iloilo has ordered the arrest of a resident of San Jose, Antique who was charged with the crime of cyberlibel under Republic Act 10175 in relation to articles 353 and 355 of the Revised Penal Code.

Judge Victorino Maniba, Jr. issued last Thursday, Jan. 18, a warrant of arrest against Patrick Wilfred Uy, aka Peewee Uy, on the basis of a criminal indictment for cyberlibel filed by the City Prosecutor of Iloilo.

The arrest warrant stems from a Facebook post made by Uy in January last year claiming that overpricing and bribery attended the acquisition of lots in Supa, San Jose, Antique.

Gov. Rhodora Cadiao of Antique led the groundbreaking rites last year for a planned new government center that was announced as “possibly the most important infrastructure project of and for the people of Antique” under her administration.

The Facebook post allegedly alluded to Pampross Pagunsan as having benefitted from irregular transactions in the acquisition of lots intended for the center, “thereby exposing the said private complainant to dishonor, discredit, hatred, contempt and ridicule,” according to the City Prosecutor./PN
