‘Appreciation goes a long way’

The mighty oaks of Courtyard Iloilo with their Mini-Me’s

Bringing in a lot of firsts in Western Visayas, Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo joins in Marriott International’s celebration of the Associate Appreciation Week, observed simultaneously by more than 6,500 hotels across 127 countries worldwide. This is the time dedicated to thank associates for their contributions and provide opportunities to experience the brand’s enduring values: put people first, pursue excellence, embrace change, act with integrity and serve our world.

Starting May 21 – 25, 2018, Courtyard Iloilo, through its different departments put together a showcase of the Philippine’s most attended festivals: Panagbenga of Baguio, Sinulog of Cebu, Ati-atihan of Kalibo Aklan, Masskara of Bacolod, and of course the Dinagyang of Iloilo. The hotel’s employee cafeteria, Cocina Saboroso, around lunch, got dressed according to the scheduled festival’s merrymaking scene complete with its iconic look, beat and food favorites. To complete, all employees took turns serving their fellow associates, executives included; making sure everyone is made to feel appreciated.

Human Resources Manager, Carmen Siongco, shares that “the theme was chosen to recognize the many regions where our employees come from, embracing the mix of many vibrant backgrounds that all contribute to the hotels successful operation. It is important that we appreciate what makes us all unique and the advantages it brings as everyone effectively works together.” She further adds that as a new hotel under the Marriott brand portfolio, in a city that’s on its way to greater heights, “it is important that culture is introduced properly, inculcating Bill Marriott’s management philosophy of taking care of its people and in turn, they will take care of the guests.”

Marriott International’s vision, to be the world’s favorite travel company, is in essence a reminder for us to do our best to be our guests’ top of mind. In doing that, General Manager, Cleofe Albiso, shares that the company’s real success relies on how happy our people are working with us. Day in and day out, we take it upon ourselves as leaders to always celebrate small and big wins together in all gestures, and to show that hard work, attention to detail, pursuit of excellence are the elements that opens bigger opportunities in life. Further, it’s time to open the minds of Ilonggos to a more international standard, and working with Courtyard by Marriott, in no less than the city of Love, is the best time to do so.

As part of the company’s thrust to bring innovation to the hospitality industry in Iloilo, it is imperative to instil in the young workforce a sense of learning something new every day bringing their work ethics and values up to global standards. It is this kind of mindset that will propel the region and make its mark./PN
