MANILA – Christian Araneta got back on the winning track following a one-sided unanimous decision triumph against compatriot Richard Rosales at the International Pharmaceuticals Inc. compound in Mandaue City, Cebu on Wednesday.
It was an impressive bounce back fight for the Borbon, Cebu-native Araneta as he manhandled Rosales from start to finish getting the nod of three judges – 99-89, 100-98 and 99-89.
The 25-year-old Araneta, who came from his first defeat against Mexican pugilist Daniel Valladares last year, was most dominant in the fifth and sixth rounds where he floored the elder Rosales twice.
With the victory, Araneta increased his boxing record to 18-1-0, with 14 victories by way of stoppages while the 27-year-old Rosales saw his slate dropped to 14-13-2, with eight knockout wins.
In the supporting bout, Cebuano Mark Vicelles maintained his unblemished 12-0-1 (6 knockout wins) slate following a fourth round stoppage win over Junuel Lacar (8-6-3, 6 KOs).
The 24-year-old Vicelles flexed his muscles early in the non-title clash as he scored a knockdown each in the second, third and fourth rounds before it was halted with Lacar unable to retaliate.
In other results, Peter Apolinar (12-1-0, 8 KOs) cruised to a unanimous decision win over Jetro Pabustan (30-8-6, 9 KOs) while Carlo Bacaro (6-0-0, 5 KOs) came up with a fourth round technical decision win over Jeffrey Stella (4-10-3, 4 KOs)./PN
