Some areas in Metro Manila have been under granular lockdown to stop the spread COVID-19 virus.

The number of areas under granular lockdown in the National Capital Region (NCR) decreased from to 61 on Friday from 74 areas the day before, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported.

Of the 61 areas on lockdown, 36 were houses, 16 residential buildings, four streets and five subdivisions, according to the latest data from the PNP.

These areas were included in 515 areas all over the country which have been under granular lockdown.  Of the 515 areas, 2,171 households were under the granular lockdown affecting 6,530 individuals.

NCR had 896 areas under granular lockdown at one point during the pilot implementation of the alert level 3 on September 16, according to the Interior Department.

Metro Manila is under alert level 3 from October 16 until October 31.

Due to decreasing cases, the health department said there is a “very high” possibility of downgrading NCR’s status to Alert Level 2. (©Philippine Daily Inquirer 2021)
