Arevalo man accused of shooting cop falls

ILOILO City – A resident of Arevalo district who shot a police officer in Oton, Iloilo was caught in Janiuay town.

Joel Tugado was detained at the district police station after his arrest in Barangay Pangilihan, Janiuay.

Charged with attempted homicide, the 25-year-old resident of Barangay Sooc, Arevalo was accused of shooting Police Officer 1 John Rey Sadsad of the Oton police station on April 20.

Tugado fled after the incident, police said, adding that a tipster informed them that the suspect hid in Janiuay.

Officers from the Arevalo police station and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s intelligence division served Tugado a warrant of arrest at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Judge Victorino Maniba of the Regional Trial Court Branch 38 issued the warrant and set the bail at P72,000.

On April 20 Tugado – drunk and armed with a .22 revolver – threatened some Arevalo residents, police said.

Sadsad, a resident of the district, approached Tugado to calm him down but the latter fired at the policeman, hitting him on the right eyebrow.

Sadsad was confined in the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district for treatment after that./PN
