Argument over drinks turns fatal for truck driver

ILOILO City – A 43-year-old man was shot in Barangay Gines Patag, Cabatuan, Iloilo on Tuesday after an apparent argument during a drinking binge in the nearby Janiuay town.

Oliver Manadero, a truck driver from Barangay Tubang, Maasin town, died of a gunshot wound on the chest, a police report showed.

Four motorcycle-riding men – two in each of two motorcycles – were going after Manadero and an unidentified companion, who were riding another motorcycle, prior to the shooting.

Investigation showed the four and Manadero had a misunderstanding over drinks in Janiuay, said Senior Inspector Sullen Domingo, Cabatuan police chief.

Manadero and his companion were heading home at around 4 a.m. when the suspects waylaid them.

The companion managed to escape. Manadero, left behind, was shot and left in the middle of the road, said Domingo.

Police have yet to identify the suspects as of this writing.
