Armenia Eagles win 2020 PRO Chess League

The Armenia Eagles upset heavily-favored powerhouse St. Louis Archbishops, 9½-6½, in the finals to win the 2020 PRO Chess League Online hosted by the chess.com server.

The Eagles, led by GMs Parham Maghsoodloo, Haik Martirosyan and Tigran  L. Petrosian, clobbered the Archbishops bannered by GMs Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So and Leinier Dominguez Perez, who lost to mostly erratic play in time trouble.

The victory was worth US$20,000 to the Eagles while the Archbishops settled for the runner-up purse of $10,000. The China Pandas, another powerhouse team, came in third place after beating the Canada Chess Brahs. The three-division, 24-team, four-board competition has a time format of 10 minutes plus two seconds increment per move.
