Armenian FM is 4th World PWD Chess Champion

FM Sargis Sargissyan of Aremnia completed a remarkable climb to the top of the 4th  World Chess Championship for People with Disabilities by winning his final round game and crowining himself  the world champion of this planet’s disabled player

Sargissyan scored 8½ points in the 9-round Swiss evevnt, half-a-point better than FM Marcin Molenda of Poland and Jose Maria Saponara Caizzi of Argentina who each tallied 8 points. And share 2nd to 3rd spots. Russia’s FM Stanislav Babarykin, who led the event for the longest time, settled for a share of 4th to 9th places with compatriot FM Ilia Lipilin, Ganbat Dashtseren of Mongolia, Antonio Varvaglione of Italy, FM Carlos Larduet Despaigne of Cuba, and IM Jacek Stachan of the Czech Republic. Each has 7½ points.

Meanwhile, the Filipino players entered in the competition didn’t quite live up to expectations – kept at bay by strong opposition that have no doubt taken them by surprise. Henry Lopez turned out to be the Philippines’ best scorer, notching 7 points in an undefeated performance, with Jasper Rom scoring 6½ markers. The country’s best bet, FM Sander Severino, can only manage 6 points along with Darry Bernanrdo, while Rodolfo Sarmiento tallied 5 points.

WHITE TO MOVE, MATE IN TWO.

The key to our last problem is 1.Ba6!, and Black’s futile options are: 1…Nxb5 2.Bxb5#; 1…Nf3 2.Re5#; 1…Ne2 2.Rc5#.
