AKLAN – A tip from civilian informants led to the successful recovery of war materiel believed to be left behind by remnants of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in a remote area along the border of Aklan and Capiz provinces.
The joint government operation was launched around 9 a.m. on Monday, April 14, in Sitio Pula, Barangay Dalagsaan, Libacao, Aklan. Informants from towns like Kalibo and New Washington provided critical intelligence, backed by local government support, that helped troops pinpoint the location.
Seized from the site were a U.S. M2 .30 Carbine, two anti-tank mines, 15 rounds of 40mm high-explosive cartridges, 178 rounds of linked 7.62mm ammunition, 49 rounds of 7.62mm ball ammunition, four AK-47 magazines, and components of an M14 rifle.
Philippine Army officials believe the weapons were stashed by members of the Komiteng Rehiyon–Panay (KR-Panay), who have gone inactive in recent months and are now showing signs of willingness to surrender.
They added that the recovery marks a significant blow to the group’s operational capabilities in the region./PN
