ILOILO City – A total of 279 young men took their oath as candidate soldiers of the Philippine Army at the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) headquarters in Camp Peralta, Jamindan, Capiz.
They successfully completed three months of rigid training, according to Army Captain Cenon Pancito, 3ID spokesperson.
But there would be six more months of further training, he stressed – the Candidate Soldier Course and Jungle Warfare and Mountain Operations Course – before the new soldiers are deployed to various areas.
“We continuously recruit soldiers to beef up the Philippine Army. Some soldiers have retired from the service. Others were dismissed,” said Pancito on Tuesday.
The 3ID commander, Major General Eric Vinoya, welcomed the new soldiers yesterday.
”Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for accepting the challenge and for answering the call of soldiery. Many people are scared to join because of the risks that come with this noble profession,” he said.
Vinoya also lauded the new soldiers’ families.
“Thank you so much for supporting the decision of your loved ones to join the profession of arms,” he said./PN
