ILOILO City – Can a former commander of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division end the decades-old reign of the Salcedos in Sara, Iloilo?

Retired Army General Jon Nequia Aying is running for mayor of Sara under President Rodrigo Duterte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan.

He said he wanted to change the negative impression on Sara as a municipality with a serious law enforcement problem.

As a former law enforcer, said Aying, he understood what were needed to make Sara peaceful and orderly, and free from guns and goons.

“Klaro sa akon ang taktika, procedure, proseso kag estratihiya pang-militar kag pulis kon paano ma-neutralize ang ining mga maitom nga malain ginhawa nga nagahatag kakugmat kag kriminalidad sa aton mga pumoluyo,” said Aying.

A resident of Sitio Proper, Barangay Aspera, Sara, Aying is running against Jesus Salcedo, currently the municipal vice mayor and son of incumbent Ermilita Salcedo.

The former soldier said he was not satisfied with the performance of the Salcedos.

“Kon kuntento man lang ako, indi ako magpadalagan mayor,” said Aying who launched the movement Katilingban sang Katarungan, Katawhayan, Kauswagan sang Sara.

Aying filed his certificate of candidacy yesterday.

Salcedo, on the other hand, played down Aying’s foray into municipal politics. He is the candidate of the Nacionalista Party.

“At the end of the day ang mga pumoluyo ang naga-desidar whether ang issue insakto ukon indi,” he said.

Salcedo also said there was nothing new in the issues being hurled against his family and that the people of Sara have always been supportive of the Salcedos.

“Wala ko ‘ni gin gusto. Ang mga pumoluyo nga Saranhon nagasinggit sang patago kag ginaduso ako nga magdalagan mayor,” said Aying./PN
