Army soldiers, Cafgu cited for combat accomplishments

ILOILO City – Thirty-three Philippine Army soldiers and a Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) Active Auxiliary (CAA) were recently awarded for combat accomplishments.

Of the 33 soldiers, two were officers and 31 were Enlisted Personnel of the 15th Infantry Battalion.

They received the Military Merit Medal with Bronze Spearhead Device, said Major General Benedict Arevalo, commander of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division. 

A CAA who figured in a recent clash with rebels in Cauayan, Negros Occidental also received a the Military Merit Medal.

“May the awards further inspire and motivate you to do your best to serve and secure the peace-loving people not only in Negros island but in other areas of Western and Central Visayas,” said Arevalo. 

The clash in Barangay Caliling, Cauayan on April 19 led to the death of an alleged member of the New People’s Army and the seizure of high-powered firearms./PN
