MANILA – Kinetix Lab-Army’s Mark Julius Bordeos outsprinted five other cyclists to snatch the penultimate Stage 13 of the LBC Ronda Pilipinas 2017 on Friday at the Iloilo Business Park.

The 21-year-old Bordeos edged Navy-Standard Insurance’s Ronald Lomotos, Kinetix Lab-Army’s Cris Joven, RC Cola-NCR’s Leonel Dimaano, Sultan Kudarat’s Roel Quitoy, and Army’s Lord Anthony del Rosario to secure his very first lap victory.

“Thankful and happy that I won the stage here,” said the Laoac, Pangasinan-native Bordeos, who finished the 209-km Iloilo-Antique-Iloilo lap in five hours, 19 minutes and one second.

Jan Paul Morales of Navy, who checked in at eighth in the stage in 5:19:10, is still favored to take the overall championship when the annual race ends today with Stage 14 – a 50-km criterium that will start and end at the Iloilo Business Park.

“Yes, I think I’m sure now,” said Morales, who may become the first ever back-to-back winner of this race and join two-time winner Santy Barnachea as the most titled winner with two crowns apiece.

All in all, Morales has won five stages – the Stage Two criterium in Vigan, Ilocos Sur; the Angeles-Subic Stage Three; the Pili-Daet Stage Seven; the Stage Nine criterium in Sta. Rosa, Laguna; and the Stage 13 Individual Time Trial in Guimaras.

The 31-year-old Morales has shown a dominating performance as he is not only close to bagging the title and the P1 million purse that goes with it, but also the sprint and King of the mountain title./PN
