ILOILO City – From July 1 to Sept. 24, the number of arrested high-value drug suspects in Western Visayas rose to 859, reported the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
One hundred seventy of these were drug users and 689 were pushers, police data showed.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) had the most number of arrests at 294, followed by the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) with 220; Capiz police with 155; Aklan police with 88; Antique police with 79; and Guimaras police with 23.
“We expect the number of arrests to further increase. We want to get all our targets,” said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 spokesperson.
Of the 859 neutralized targets, 14 died. Gorero said they resisted arrest and tried to attack policemen.
According to Gorero, the second evaluation of each police unit’s performance in the campaign against illegal drugs will be done on Oct. 22. This covers six weeks starting Sept. 9, 2016.
Police chiefs or units with lackluster performances will be investigated. Their banishment to other areas as sanction is possible, said Gorero.
On Sept. 16, the PRO-6 conducted consultative dialogue with the mayors of Iloilo province to solicit support and commitment in the war against illegal drugs./PN
