Arroyo cites private sector for deploying rescue teams, generator sets post-quake

MANILA – House Speaker and Pampanga representative Gloria Arroyo cited the private sector’s efforts in aiding the victims of the 6.1-magnitude earthquake which hit Luzon on Monday afternoon and killed at least seven people.

The former President, who has been in Porac, Pampanga since Monday night to check on the situation, said that a number of companies and groups have been pitching in to help, including Meralco, PLDT, Ayala Corporation, mining firm Philex, the Makati Business Club, and the Philippine Disaster Response Foundation.

The aid from private companies include the deployment of rescue teams, generator sets, floodlights, and choppers, as well as personnel and equipment for road clearing operations.

“I want to acknowledge those who have already sending help, and we are very grateful to them for their support. I’m grateful that everybody is doing everything to save lives, help the injured and restore normalcy as soon as possible,” Arroyo said.

On top of the aid from the private sector, the city government of Angeles, Pampanga, for its part, sent truck and ambulances.

The epicenter of the 6.1 quake was in Zambales province.  (GMA News)
