MANILA – ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles snapped their losing skid in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference with a 31-29, 25-15, 25-15 sweep over Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers over the weekend at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Chinnie Pia Arroyo finished with 15 points, built on 13 attacks, one block, and a service ace, to be named Player of the Game as the Thunderbelles ended their three-game losing skid to improve to a 3-4 win-loss slate.
“Tibay ng loob, ‘yun lang po ang sinandalan ko in this game kasi kailangan talaga walang bibitaw sa amin,” Arroyo said in a post-game interview. “Sabi lang sa amin ni ate Jov (Gonzaga) na kailangan sipagan lang namin and walang sumusuko sa amin.”
“Malaking bagay din para sa amin itong panalo na ito kasi ‘yung next game namin mabigat din talaga,” added the former National University Lady Bulldogs standout, referring to their January 30 game against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers.
Ilongga Glaudine Trongcoso also made her presence felt with 12 points, on 11 attacks and a block, while Michelle Gamit contributed 12 markers for the Thunderbelles, which suffered a come-from-behind five-set defeat to Choco Mucho Flying Titans last week.
Jorelle Singh was the lone double-digit scorer for the Solar Spikers with 10 points, while Rovena Instrella contributed seven markers as they dropped to a 1-6 win-loss slate.
Meanwhile, Chery Tiggo Crossovers overcame an early setback to defeat Farm Fresh Foxies, 21-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-17.
Ilongga Princess Anne Robles powered the Crossovers with 21 points, while Victorinara Galang added 20 markers, lifting their team to a fifth win in eight games and moving them from seventh to a tie for third place.
Cza Carandang excelled in the middle with 12 points, setter Alina Bicar tallied 15 excellent sets, while Joahna Verdeflor stepped up defensively with 24 excellent digs and nine receptions for Chery Tiggo.
Trisha Tubu topped Farm Fresh’s scoring with 15 points, while Negrense Alyssa Bertolano, Rizza Cruz, Lorene Toring, and Pierre Abellana combined for 24 points as they dropped to a 3-4 record./PN
