THE Iloilo City government launched the Iloilo Art Book: Art in the Heart of the Philippines, a 200-page coffee table book, in celebration of the National Arts Month.
The book features over 185 local artists and at least 200 artworks documenting the local art scene.
The Iloilo Art Book is another endeavor spearheaded by Iloilo City First Lady Rosalie Treñas, chairperson of the Iloilo Arts Festival 2020â2022.

âIlonggos have embraced local arts. Art has the power of moving, inspiring, provoking curiosity and excitement, and even sending messages,â she noted.
Mrs. Treñas said the art book âtells stories of hope and victories of the Ilonggosâ and encourages aspiring artists to hone their craft and delve into creative industries.
âWe would want to see more Ilonggos make their profession by giving them platformsâ she added.
Meanwhile, Mayor Jerry P. Trenas emphasized that while the city government is doing numerous projects to provide accessible and basic services, one must not forget the âsoulâ of the city.

âArt is our core; it is very much a part of our culture and heritage,â he said, adding, âThis is for Ilonggo artistsâ
The book cover features a lovely piece by local artist Gerundio Buendia Jr. entitled âAbundanceâ.
âIt is a colorful representation depicting what being an Ilonggo means⊠I thought it was important to showcase this as a reminder of Iloiloâs illustrious past,â said creative director Francesca Golez.
The book was published in partnership with the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI).
It is available through pre-order at the IFFI office, back of the Ker and Co. Ltd. Building. (With reports from Glenda Tayona and Iloilo City PIO)/PN
