ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has ramped up security measures and reiterated its call for police neutrality as the local campaign period for the May 2025 National and Local Elections officially kicks off today, March 28.

ICPO director Police Colonel Kim P. Legada underscored the need for impartiality among police officers, pointing out that neutrality is key to upholding public trust and ensuring the credibility of the electoral process.

“We are here to serve and protect the public, regardless of political affiliations. It is crucial that we demonstrate impartiality to ensure peaceful and orderly elections,” Legada said.

To bolster election security, the ICPO has been holding coordination meetings with the city government, the Commission on Elections (Comelec), and other stakeholders.

Additional police forces will be deployed to campaign venues, public areas, and identified high-risk zones to prevent violence and respond promptly to security concerns.

Legada reminded ICPO personnel to strictly follow the guidelines of the Comelec and the Philippine National Police (PNP), which prohibit participation in partisan political activities.

The ICPO also urged the public to stay vigilant and report any election-related violations. Legada assured that authorities are prepared to act swiftly and fairly in addressing any issues that may arise.

No major election-related incidents were recorded in Iloilo City during the national campaign period that began on February 11, reflecting the ICPO’s commitment to peace and order.

With local campaigns now underway, the ICPO is appealing to both candidates and the public to help ensure a fair and secure election season./PN
