BACOLOD City – Leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will gather in this city starting today for the 15th Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials Responsible for Information (SOMRI).
The two-day meeting begins with a 9 a.m. program at the SMX Convention Center.
SOMRI leaders and the ASEAN Secretariat will try to reach a consensus on policy guidelines and priority areas in the fields of information and media, according to Communications undersecretary Noel George Puyat.
Chairpersons of the SOMRI Working Groups will give updates on the outcomes of the Working Group meetings on digital broadcasting, content and production, and information, media and training, Puyat said in a statement.
“We will monitor the progress of implementation of work programs and related activities, including the ASEAN Strategic Plan for Information and Media 2016-2025, communication plans in support of ASEAN community, cooperation with dialogue partners, and joint activities for the 50th founding anniversary of ASEAN,” he said.
The Philippines, as chair of ASEAN 2017, will host a grand commemorative celebration of ASEAN@50 on Aug. 8.
“SOMRI is urged to boost the campaign promotion for this milestone and use the momentum of this festivity to generate awareness of the ASEAN community,” said Puyat.
Every delegate is allowed a maximum of 12 companions, including personnel from their respective embassies in Manila, Puyat said.
On Friday, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) secretary Martin Andanar will be in Bacolod for the PCOO Road Show to push ASEAN, he said./PN
