GUIMARAS – The municipality of Jordan is the second town to record African Swine Fever (ASF) in the island province of Guimaras.
Jordan mayor Cresente Chavez Jr. confirmed that five samples from Sitio Buyo, Barangay Espinosa tested positive based on the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) laboratory results on Friday, Jan. 6.
Chavez then ordered the depopulation of all the hogs on the farm where the ASF-positive samples came.
Barangay officials also set up border control checkpoints to monitor the movement of live hogs and pork products.
These are some of the measures taken, according to the mayor, to avoid infecting the town’s remaining 13 barangays: Alaguisoc, Balcon Maravilla, Balcon Melliza, Bugnay, Buluangan, Hoskyn, Lawi, Morobuan, Poblacion, Rizal, San Miguel, Sinapsapan, and Santa Teresa.
The hog disease was first recorded in Buenavista, Guimaras, where two barangays are currently affected – Sawang and Getulio./PN
