In an official statement by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 6, hog specimens collected from Barangay Sawang, Buenavista town on Dec. 15 turned out to be ASF-positive.

On Friday afternoon the Guimaras provincial government, headed by Gov. JC Rahman Nava, already met with the DA-6 and discussed detailed protocols and interventions to be implemented.

Also present were Vice Gov. John Edward Gando; the mayors of Buenavista, Jordan, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo; and Sibunag towns; provincial agriculturist; provincial veterinary officer; and legal consultants.

Nava issued Executive Order No. 118-2022 banning the entry and exit of swine, pork, pork products and by-products to and from the municipality of Buenavista.

Meanwhile, the DA-6  appealed to the public not to panic and follow the ASF protocols being implemented in all ports of entry, animal checkpoints and also intensify their respective biosecurity measures./PN
